Over 25 years ago, I decided to focus my practice on family law.  This decision arose from my desire to work with individuals on a personal level.  Over the years, I have come to realize that often the most important factor in the successful resolution of a separation on a final basis is the involvement of both spouses in creating their agreement.  This has led me from a litigation focused practice towards one that focuses on helping people reach an agreement outside of court that is tailored to them and their unique situation.

While a separation can be painful and difficult, it is also a new beginning.  As a mediator, my goal is to provide you with the information and guidance that you each need to reach a resolution in a timely and cost effective manner so that you can embark upon your new future.

My home town is Winnipeg where I attended the University of Manitoba to attain both my Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) degree and my Bachelor of Law degree.   I moved from Winnipeg to Toronto to practice at a corporate firm.  While this experience allowed me to learn much about financial and corporate issues, it also led me to determine that I wanted to practice in an area that allowed me to help people directly.  I moved to Ottawa 25 years ago for the lifestyle that the city offers and began my practice as a family lawyer.   I have worked exclusively in family law since then.

Throughout the years, I have litigated and negotiated countless family law matters.  Although I would never say that I have seen it all, I have seen a lot including what happens in the court process.  I bring this depth of experience to my work as a mediator.  In addition to being a trained family law mediator and member of the Ontario Association of Family Mediation, I am also a trained collaborative family lawyer and am a member of Collaborative Family Practice Ottawa.

I am married and have three teenage children who keep me humble and aware of how precious time is.

It would be my honour to assist you as your mediator.
